Summary:
Hollyhock Hideaway is the place to be! With a touch of rural serenity, our historic home has all the modern amenities you could want for your stay in South Bend! Our 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home can sleep up to 13 people and was built before indoor electric and running water existed! The University of Notre Dame is about 5 mins away from our house, and local attractions like the Studebaker Museum, Potawatomi Zoo, and the South Bend airport are only 15 mins away.
The Space:
***The 2024 pool season has begun! Now open until Labor Day!***
Guests will enter the home through the front door. Once inside, you'll be welcomed into the open-concept living space. You'll find the dining room with a large farmhouse table on your right and the fully-equipped kitchen on your left. You can enjoy time together at the table or at the kitchen island seating! The living room is in the back of the house which features comfy recliners, a queen sleeper sofa, a large TV and so much more! Check out the (non-functioning) original wood-burning stove which was used in the house before modern amenities were installed or sit in front of a fire on those chilly Mishawaka nights!
The master bedroom is just off the dining room, where you will find a king bed and ensuite bathroom with a standalone tub, spa-like shower and tons of cabinet space! The oversized laundry room is accessible from the living room. Take the stairs off the dining area to the remaining bedrooms and bathroom. The first bedroom upstairs has a queen bed and futon and there is a full bed in the next bedroom. The last bedroom has a bunk bed. There are three trunks with extra pillows and blankets for you to set up the sleeper sofa, queen air mattress or twin chaise lounge futon! There is a full bathroom upstairs in the hallway.
Don't forget to checkout the backyard and ample outdoor space on our 5-acre lot. There is a swimming pool with tons of patio space, a play-set in the side yard, and tons of green space to run around! We welcome football fans and tailgaters as well as families and friends coming together to celebrate special occasions. We require a $1000 deposit for any larger gathering. We look forward to hosting you!
NOTE: we have weekly maintenance and cleaning performed on our pool. The pool services do not take long and will not disrupt your stay. We will need access to the yard/pool area if you stay with us on service day. Thanks for understanding!
Guest Access:
The house has a digital keypad at the front door which will provide you access to the house. The code will be provided upon check-in. You will have full and private access to the home.
The pool house is rented separately to a long term tenant. There are no shared inside spaces and the long term tenant does not have access to the pool. Guests will have full and private access to the pool and yard.
The Neighborhood:
Our home is located in a rural area, a few blocks away from Old US-31 and 5 mins from Notre Dame. There is a guest house on the property that your hosts live in. This will allow you to have a completely private stay, but with help nearby if you need it!
Tailgaters and small-gatherings welcome. Deposit Required.
Getting Around:
Uber, Lyft, and other Taxi available, but driving is encouraged!
Other Things to Note:
Some fun facts about our home are that the home was built in 1783. It was first sold and recorded in public documents in 1834 for $400. It passed through many families. The current homeowners fully renovated the home during the great pandemic of 2020. Since this house was built before indoor electric and running water, power tools or even a level existed, it has some quirks that we think are fun and help give the house character! The doors are antique and authentic to the Home, as is the wood burning stove. The fireplace was made with field stones from around the property back in the 1800s. The master bedroom was converted from the parlor and has a private door to the front porch.

We welcome football fans and tailgaters as well as families and friends coming together to celebrate special occasions. We require a $1000 deposit for any larger gathering.
We require a signed rental agreement and for guest to be 25 years of age to book.
If you notify us of your intent to cancel prior to the lapse of the free cancellation period, we will return 97% of your payment. The other 3% will already have been collected by the credit card processing company, and we have no way to return that portion of the payment.
We are a pet friendly home. Pets must be crated when they are left unattended in the home. We do not allow pets on furniture or beds, and all waste must be cleaned up from the yard. All pets require a non-refundable pet fee. If there is evidence of pet hair on the furniture, excess hair in the home, stains, or waste found in the yard or home, you will be charged the cost to clean this. In the event that a security deposit is collected, we will retain all or part of the security deposit to cover any costs associated with additional cleaning due to pets.
Interaction with Guests:
NO PARTIES. NO EVENTS. This home is within a residential neighborhood, to be courteous to our neighbors we ask that you respect quiet hours starting at 10 PM. If our cleaning crew reports any signs of smoking cigarettes (smell, ash, etc.) inside the home, an automatic $300 damage charge will be incurred.
